Spectrum Minneapolis Adds Catheter Technologies
Spectrum Plastics Group, a DuPont Business (“Spectrum”) is a global solutions provider of critical polymer-based components and devices for medical and other demanding markets. Expanding on its development through scaled manufacturing services, Spectrum announces the addition of catheter technologies at its Minneapolis, MN site.
Spectrum Minneapolis is a 105,000-square-foot facility with engineering, manufacturing, warehouse, and Class 8 cleanroom capabilities. A cleanroom expansion has enabled a new catheter assembly area, fully staffed with engineering and project management support. Building on the site’s long history and core business in injection molding, this new area supports secondary operations fundamental to catheter systems. The Minneapolis site joins other Spectrum sites in offering these new services, including overmolding, in important global geographic hubs.
Spectrum provides end-to-end development and manufacturing services to the top global medical OEMs. Expanding catheter services to its Minneapolis facility extends this reach and accessibility of the site, now serving interventional and surgical markets, to the important Minnesota medical device hub.
The investment in state-of-the-art catheter-related equipment enables Spectrum Minneapolis to offer such secondary operations as forming, tipping (RF welding/tipping, and dilator/catheter tipping), pad printing, laser marking and, overmolding for dilators and introducers.
Spectrum has also added key human resources to the site in Minneapolis to support customer programs utilizing catheter technologies. Engineering talent has been relocated from Sandy, UT to bring expertise in catheter assembly to the Minneapolis operations. Project Management has also been added in Minneapolis to ensure customer success on programs utilizing these new capabilities.
Spectrum is known broadly as “your first call solutions provider.” Through automation and state-of-the-art capabilities, Spectrum offers cost-effective and competitive services that leverage strength in quality systems, development, and validation. Adding the catheter assembly and a project support team at Spectrum Minneapolis furthers Spectrum’s global reach in this promise.
“We believe this investment in catheter capabilities, and our continuing investments in secondary operations to increase our vertical integration in general, makes sound business sense as we support the vibrant growth of the medical device ecosystem of the greater Minneapolis-St Paul region and beyond. Whereas outside-of-the-US (OUS) deployments may make sense for certain applications, we believe in remaining competitive locally through automation, continued state-of-the-art capabilities, improved accessibility and logistics, lead times, and the tremendous resources and ingenuity now available to us through DuPont,” says Paul W. Melnychuck, Vice President & General Manager, Advanced Components – Spectrum Medical Device.
Spectrum is committed to fueling future growth through targeted investments. Stay tuned for upcoming news about its Hermann, Missouri and Tullamore, Ireland sites soon as Spectrum continues to invest in additional automation capabilities and value-added services around the world.
